WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT THE WOMAN IS A HELP MEET?

In Genesis chapter 2:18 God said he will make for Adam a help meet for him. What does that statement mean?

(Genesis 2:18 KJV) And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

Meet in this context is an adjective that means "suitable". What that scripture is saying is that God created a "help" for Adam and this helper was "meet" (suitable, fit, proper) for Him.

  1. Please sir, does it mean that some men don't need a help meet? i want to know why Apostle Paul supported celibacy for the servant of God, if women are really a help meet.

  2. A woman was created to be a helper suitable for a particular man. It is the duty of the man to find that one that is suitable/ proper for him. A man may decide that he does not need a helper but that does not mean that God did not create suitable one for him. It is his choice not to need a helper.

There is no evidence from the bible that Apostle Paul supported celibacy. In 1 Timothy 3:2 he said for you to be a bishop you must be a husband of one wife. In 1 Cor 7:8-9, he said that the unmarried and widows can marry if they cannot exercise self control. This same scripture shows that he encouraged marriage but chose not to marry.
