JESUS SAID MAKE FRIENDS OF THE MAMMON OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
In the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, it is stated that Jesus told his disciples to make friends of the mammon of unrighteousness after narrating the parable of the dishonest Steward. What does this statement mean
(Luke 16:9 KJV) And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
The statement simply means that you should use worldly wealth to make friends. A better rendering of the verse would include the word "out" and the word "ye" replaced by "it" as shown below:
And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends, [out] of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye [it] fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
Some other versions of the bible give clearer understanding of the verse. Here are some examples:
(Luke 16:9 BSB) I tell you, use worldly wealth to make friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, they will welcome you into eternal dwellings.
(Luke 16:9 NLT) Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.
