WHY JESUS HAD TO GO BACK TO HEAVEN BEFORE THE HOLY SPIRIT COULD BE SENT.
There is a simple and clear truth regarding the Holy Spirit which many people miss. The Bible clearly and simply reveals that the Holy Spirit was GIVEN to Jesus from the Father and then literally 'poured out' upon God's people. However Jesus needed to go back to heaven before this could happen. Let's take a look at some scriptures:
(John 7:38-39) 'He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)'
(John 16:7) 'Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.'
(John 20:17) Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
(Luke 24:39) Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
(John 20:19-22) 'Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you ... And when he had said this,he BREATHED on them, and saith unto them, RECEIVE YE THE HOLY GHOST.'
(Hebrews 1:8-9) 'But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.'
(Acts 2:33) 'Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth [to literally pour out] this, which ye now see and hear.'
Can you see this amazing truth friend?:
- Jesus did not allow Mary to touch Him because He has not ascended to the Father. From John 20:17 & Luke 24:39 we could deduce that He quickly ascended to the Father and returned to His disciples, allowing them to touch Him from then on.
- It was after He has ascended and returned, that He was able to give the Holy Spirit to His disciples (see John 20:19-22). Why did He ascend first? So that He would receive POWER from His Father, which He thereafter gave to His disciples and the Believers. This POWER is the ability to directly pour the Holy Spirit on God's people.
- Jesus had to go back to heaven first to be glorified before the Holy Spirit could be 'sent'. In heaven, Jesus was glorified by the Father with the 'anointing of oil' (Spirit). God GAVE His Son the promise - the anointing of His Holy Spirit, which Jesus could now 'pour out' upon God's people.
- The Holy Spirit which previously proceeds from the Father, now proceeds from Jesus. That is why Jesus said it is expedient that He ascended to the Father, for if He did not ascend, the Holy Spirit would not could. Jesus Christ is the one that now gives the Holy Spirit, which was previously not the case prior to His ascension. Read THE HOLY SPIRIT(COMFORTER) WAS NOT GIVEN TO THE PROPHETS OF OLD. THE BIBLE SAYS SO.
