WHY THE “LORD’S PRAYER” IS NOT FOR BELIEVERS TODAY.
In my earlier post I pointed out that Jesus' Prayer to the Father in John chapter 17 is more appropriate to be called "The Lord's Prayer" and not the one in Matthew chapter 6. Read it here in case you missed it.
There is no record in the bible that the apostles and disciples of Jesus ever prayed this prayer in Matthew chapter 6. Here are some of the reasons why you also should not:
Mat 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
The fact that Jesus said, "Your kingdom come," meant that the kingdom of God had not yet come at that time. The kingdom of God has now come and once you are born again and become a child of God, you are a part of the kingdom of God. If we pray, "Your kingdom come," we are saying the kingdom has not come and we are not in it. We do not believe His Word in Colossians 1:13 which says “. ... and hath transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love”
Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
The fact that Jesus said, "Deliver us from the evil one," means that we are not already delivered. We would not have to ask Him to deliver us from what we have already been set free from. At the time Jesus gave the disciples this Prayer Pattern, Jesus had not yet gone to Calvary. He had not yet died or risen from the dead. The disciples had to say, "Deliver us from the evil one," because they were not delivered yet!
Colossians 1:12-13 tells us:
Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet (qualify) to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
If we say, "Deliver us from the evil one," we are saying we are not already delivered. We will be calling God a liar, because He clearly told us in Colossians that we are delivered from the evil one.
Another reason why the prayer is not for believers today is that those verses in Matthew chapter 6 did not say a thing about Jesus' name. It is obvious that the reason "In Jesus' name" was not included in this prayer was that Jesus gave it to the disciples to finish out the Old Covenant dispensation. It was never meant to be used in the New Covenant dispensation, and it does not meet New Testament standards.
