EVIDENCE THAT THE SIX DAYS ACCOUNT OF GENESIS IS THAT OF RESTORATION NOT ORIGINAL CREATION

The Bible shows that only Genesis 1:1 gives the account of the original creation. Here, God created a perfect world. However, in Genesis 1:2, something happened to the perfect earth which caused it to become formless and void. From Genesis 1:3, the Bible describes the restoration of the earth to its perfection earth. It is not describing the original creation.

Here is the evidence that the six days account of Genesis chapter 1 from verse 3 is that of restoration of the earth and not the original creation:
  1. It is a fact that dry land must have been created before the waters, or there would have been no place to hold the waters. More so, comparing Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 1:10, we see that "earth" and "dry land" are synonymous. (Genesis 1:1 KJV) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:10 KJV) And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. So since the earth was originally created dry land, Genesis 1:2 refers to flood water covering the dry land. Read (Genesis 1:2 KJV) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Therefore the account from Genesis 1:3 is a restoration of the earth and not the original creation except Genesis 1:21 & 27 when sea creatures and man were created.
  2. The fact that the earth (i.e. the dry land) was completely flooded with water indicates that the earth was judged by God since water is commonly associated with judgment and the account of the six days is a restoration. A typical example where flood water is associated with God's judgment is the account of Noah. Please read the following verses: (2 Peter 2:5 KJV) And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; (2 Peter 3:5-7 KJV) For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. After the judgment involving darkness in Genesis 1:2, God started restoration the earth from Genesis 1:3.
  3. The fact that the earth was enshrouded in darkness indicates that the earth was judged by God since darkness in the Bible is always associated with judgment, sin and evil. Here are other examples where darkness is associated with judgment: (Ezekiel 32:7 KJV) And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light. (Exodus 10:22 KJV) And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.
  4. The fact that the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters indicates that water already existed before day 1 event of Genesis 1:3-5 and that the the account of the six days of Genesis 1 is that of a restoration rather than one of creation.
  5. The vision of Prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 4: 23-27 describes the condition of the earth in Genesis 1:2. The vision describes the earth as without form and void and no light. Even if one argues that the vision is still in the future, it still gives credence that it could have also happened in the past. (Jeremiah 4:23-27 KJV) I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. Compare to (Genesis 1:2 KJV) And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Notice that God said, He would not make a full end of the earth even after the earth became formless and void. The six days account of Genesis chapter 1:3-31 was in line with this promise as He restored the earth.
  6. The fact that God used the word, "let", which is a word of permission, not creation, indicates that this is a restoration of the earth to its original perfection. (Genesis 1:3 KJV) And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. In other words, God permitted the light to shine, as the sun, the moon, and the stars were not permitted to shine due to judgement. Job 9:7 says, God is the one who commands the sun, and it rises not; and seals up the stars. When did these happen? There is no indication in Scripture that it has taken place since Adam walked the earth, nor after Jesus returned. Meanwhile, God also permitted the dry land to appear as well as the grasses, herbs, and fruits. (Genesis 1:6 KJV) And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. (Genesis 1:9 KJV) And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. (Genesis 1:11 KJV) And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
  7. The fact that Satan was in the garden of Eden before he sinned and rebelled against God indicates that the garden of Eden in which Adam was placed, was a restored one and if a restored one then the account of the six days of Genesis 1 is that of a restoration rather than one of creation. (Ezekiel 28:13-15 KJV) Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. Some argue that the above description is that of a man, the King of Tyrus, however did you notice that he called Him the anointed Cherub, an attribute that cannot be to ascribed to men.
  8. The prophecy of Isaiah describes how Satan fall from Heaven as he attempted to ascend from earth and how iniquity was found in him. The description shows that the garden of Eden stated in the above verses in Ezekiel chapter 28 was on earth; for Isaiah states that Satan said in his heart that he will ascend above the clouds (i.e. first Heaven) and exalt his throne above the stars (i.e second Heaven), to get to the third Heaven where God is. (Isaiah 14:12-15 KJV) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. So, if the garden of Eden in which Satan occupied, was on earth, the one that Adam occupied, was a restored one and if a restored one then the account of the six days of Genesis chapter 1 are that of a restoration rather than one of original creation.
  9. The Hebrew word translated "was" in Genesis 1:2 is "hayah". In most other places in Genesis such as Genesis 2:7, 10, 3:22 etc, the verb hayah is translated "became" or "had become". So, Genesis 1:2 should rather read: (Genesis 1:2) And the earth became formless, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. In other words, the earth was not originally formless and void. Since the earth became formless and void, it must have been caused by some sort of judgment and if that is so, the account of six days is a restoration and not the original creation.
  10. Isaiah 45:18 states that God did not create the world in vain. (Isaiah 45:18 KJV) For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. The Hebrew word translated in vain is "lo tohu". Tohu is the word translated "without form" in Genesis 1:2. For the fact that God did not create the world in vain indicates that at some point in the earth's past it became formless and void and that the six days account is a restoration.
  11. The Hebrew word translated "created" in Genesis 1:1 is "bara" which means to bring into being. It is used only 7 times in Genesis chapters 1 & 2. In all other places "made" or "make" are used. In the six days account in Genesis chapter 1 "bara" is used to indicate only 3 creative acts of God namely in Genesis 1:1 when the universe was brought into existence; in Genesis 1:21 when sea creatures were created and Genesis 1:27 when man was created. In all other acts of God in the six days account, "made" is used, indicating restoration acts and not the original creation.
  12. The fact that the earth is millions of years old indicates that the earth was not originally created during the six days of Genesis 1 as that would have placed the age of the earth at only 6,000 years old.
